A unique Table Cabinet, crafted in Italy, c18th century. Executed in hand-painted and parcel-gilt wood, the cabinet is distinguished by its extensive painted decoration. The exterior is decorated with mythological subjects, including Medusa heads, a griffin, and a reclining classical figure. Provincial in character and construction, the cabinet retains its handmade wrought iron ring pulls with brass rosettes. Opening to reveal five drawers, the interior is intricately painted with scrolling foliage, winged cherubs, birds, urns and architectural grotesques. An unusual and highly decorative example of Italian painted furniture.
