A rare pair of ‘Dragon’ Wall Lights by Carlo Rizzarda, Italy, c1920s. Executed in wrought iron, each sconce is formed as a stylised dragon with sinuous neck, spread wings and a coiled tail. The sculptural frames are richly worked with chased and hammered surface detail, and suspend flared glass shades beneath foliate mounts. Originally installed in the CEDAM (Casa Editrice Dott. Antonio Milani) publishing house building in Padua, the pair retains notable architectural provenance. A striking example of Italian Liberty lighting design, combining mythological imagery with the expressive craftsmanship for which Rizzarda is celebrated.
